Yair’s connection to the world of drones.

Shortly after Yair joined Battalion 890 of the Parachute Brigade, his commanders quickly realized that he possessed high technical aptitude and intelligence. Thus, he was assigned to take charge of the military drones. Yair participated in a military drone course and on the very first day developed a passion for the field discovering its advantages and capabilities.

While in Hebron, Yair would escort the brigade’s commander with the drone and would assure that the drone was always a few hundred meters ahead of the fighters. This provided them with a real-time picture of the situation in the field. The drone photographed several tens of meters above the ground, entered narrow alleys and buildings, and detected terrorists and explosive devices all while obtaining live photos.

Yair entered Gaza skilled at working with the drone. Before the fighters entered a house in Gaza, Yair would enter every alley and building with the drone, he would go under the tables, between the rooms, and scan the whole house for terrorists and explosive devices.

On 28.06.24, the day Yair fell in battle, he pulled out the drone to scan the house before the fighters entered. The terrorists who noticed the drone entered a narrow opening in the wall and moved into a nearby building. The inspection revealed that the house was “clean” and the team went inside. Only after the sympathizers went up to the third floor of the building, the terrorists came out of the opening in the wall, went up the stairwell to the second floor and from there fired towards the third floor, killing Yair on the spot. The preliminary activity of activating the drone caused the terrorists to flee into the doorway of the nearby house as opposed to surprising the fighters face to face in turn saving many lives.
